As thanks the Makers gives Death a hand-gun he recognizes as Redemption, one of Strife's guns though they don't know where it came from. In order to make the key they will need to get The Fire of the Mountain and the Tears of the Mountain both of which have been cut off from the Maker's village Tri-Stone by Corruption.ĭeath travels through the Cauldron with slight assistance from the young Maker Karn where the Fire is kept and removes the seal that was keeping it from flowing into the Maker's Forge. Death claims that the Corruption is not his concern but they're attacked by it in the form of Corrupted Constructs.Įidard states that the Tree of life has been cut off by the Corruption and only thing capable of clearing it away is the Guardian and the only thing capable of getting Death to it is a Maker's Key. Eidard requests Death's help in dealing with the Corruption plaguing the Forge Lands. When Death awakens he finds himself in the Forge Lands home of the Makers and is found by the Village Elder Eidard. However with his final act the Crowfather Shatters the amulet and imbeds it inside Death's chest. The fight concludes with Death running the Old One through with his scythe and the Crowfather opening the portal for Death. Death reluctantly refuses the bargain prompting the Crowfather to transform into a copy of War and Fights Death. To this end the Crowfather reveals that the Tree of Life holds the secrets that Death is looking for but he will only take him there if Death takes back the amulet containing the souls of the Nephilim. To this, Death reveals that he doesn't intend to clear War's name but undo the crime he's accused of. The Crowfather states that it is a pointless wasted effort since War is the victim of conspiracy. After making his way through the realm Death confronts the maddened Crowfather asking for his help in clearing War's name. Along the way, the Horseman discovers that there are far worse things than an earthly Apocalypse, and that an ancient grudge may threaten all of Creation.ĭarksiders II takes place during the 100 year imprisonment of War following the Darksiders prologue, except this time around, players take control of Death, the eldest and deadliest of the Horsemen.ĭeath begins his journey in The Veil, an icy realm lorded over by the eldest of the Old Ones the Crowfather, the Keeper of Secrets. The trailer is good, it's a good indication of what will you get if you watch the movie, yet it doesn't unveil too much of the plot. The music is probably okay, but I don't remember it. The story of the Wizards cartoon is the usual "good vs evil", but I feel that is okay for a film like this. In this article I've gathered images that belong to the art styles I liked, except for the opening image that's more characteristic to the film. If you watch the trailer, imagine watching it for 60 more times, and you can estimate how would you like watching that. There are multiple drawing styles in the same sequence, and sometimes stills or real life footage was inserted. There are some comedic inserts, but I didn't find them funny. It's too dark and frightening for children, yet, it's too childish for adults. I'm not sure who is the target audience of this film. The Wizards animated movie is about a good wizard trying to defeat an evil wizard, who wants to conquer the world. I probably didn't watch the trailer, at least I don't remember any of that. When I had the opportunity though, I watched if finally. However, since I didn't like the art style, nor the strange themes, I was not particularly interested in rushing to watch the movie. The first time I remember was a review of the Wizards RPG in an old Dragon Magazine. I've been hearing about the Wizards film for a long time. A Bakshi oddity which remains a full cult with intriguing visuals but little else.* * * Review (spoiler-free) - Wizards movie Certainly worth a watch but its nothing to rave about. Some characters look really good like the thin soldiers wearing gas masks, whilst others look like something from a cheap kids flick. I do like this film more for the artistic side really, the rest is somewhat dull with a lot of dialog that is uninspired. All the archive footage from Nazi Germany is possibly not required along with the baddie characters having Swastika's on them, comes across more like a fascists wet dream from time to time. 'Wizards' is an interesting but not very novel idea about simple ways vs technology. Overall its hard not to compare to this to his other cult work, but the Tolkien adaptation probably wins due to the story for one and the fact visually its a more oiled machine. The blend of animated characters and rotoscope is fine but not as natural looking as the later LOTR, this tends to look a bit crowbarred together, plus the animated characters look a tad too cartoonish in places. A strong colour palette much the same as LOTR incorporating nice dark cloudy skies, bleak murky landscapes and some decrepit dusty old cityscapes set the scenes nicely. The animation is your typical 70's look which I'm OK with I guess, it does age somewhat naturally but reminds me of many tatty old foreign cartoons from my childhood which were slightly obscure. Clearly for the adults and clearly Bakshi utilizing his skills from previous urban based animations.Ī strange mix of different concepts but definitely no lack of imagination and flare. There are plenty of bloody moments throughout just like in Bakshi's LOTR, lots of creatures getting cut down with blades and shot to pieces by gunfire, even an arrow and meat cleaver to the head for two unlucky characters! Add to this hookers that hang around in the streets of the evil wizards city of Scortch and the good wizard Avatar has a sidekick fairy in training called Elinore who is dressed in a very skimpy breast revealing little number (Jessica Rabbit eat your heart out). There are a few allegories within this film which are quite clever and would clearly go over a kids head, I was never really sure who this film was really aimed at. Never the less this animated film shows how propaganda when used correctly can be devastating just as technology can be. Certainly an odd inclusion for what was meant to be for youngsters as well as adults. This includes planes, tanks, machine guns and a film projector which projects footage of Hitler and his Nazi's. The whole idea is the baddie wizard with his mutants discover ancient buried technology from our present day and use it against the good forces. This sure is a weird combination of ideas that's for sure, hand drawn animation of goblins, elves, wizards, knights, mutants etc.Rotoscoping used for many battle sequences which appear to show various winged demons, orcs/goblins, many more knights and various live action sequences taken from other films and historic footage. They rage war to claim/save the Earth as you might have guessed. Two brother wizards battle each other, one on the side of the elves and dwarfs, the other with the mutants. The story is simply about a post apocalyptic Earth where mutants live alongside new races of elves, dwarfs and fairies.yes. Bakshi's first foray into fantasy animation and the experience he needed to gain confidence for his vision of 'The Lord of the Rings'. There’s background on the creation of their first hit “New York Mining Disaster 1941.” We discover that, at least in their case, success leads to fame, fame leads to inflated egos, and all of that led to inner turmoil and, in 1969, a breakup. We find out that all three Gibbs decided early on that they were going to become famous. Added to that are interviews with their label mate Eric Clapton, Maurice’s former wife and British pop star Lulu, and Noel Gallagher, who knows a bit about sibling harmonies from working with his brother Liam in Oasis. In the 1999 interviews, each Gibb brother chats about how the band started, how their sound developed, memories of certain gigs and each other. The Bee Gees story is a rocky ride of ups and downs, successes and failures, and them, at one point, moving from being pop stars to pariahs. It opens with a clip of their gorgeous harmonies at a 1979 concert in Oakland, while they were still riding the huge wave of popularity that sprung from their songs on the soundtrack of “Saturday Night Fever.” But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Still more are told through photos and archival footage, in the studio, at play, in old TV clips, a great deal of it onstage. The film is a collection of those memories, some from Barry, others, in separate interview sessions with the three brothers in 1999. My favorite Bee Gee is Robin, whose transcendent voice still makes me melt (check out “I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You”).įrank Marshall’s documentary stretches from home movies of them as kids to segments last year of sole remaining Bee Gee Barry - Maurice died in 2003, Robin in 2012 - thinking out loud about the fact that his immediate family is gone, but he has fantastic memories. Getting back to those questions, my favorite Bee Gees song is “Marley Purt Drive” from their “Odessa” album. Constantly reinventing themselves, they moved from longing ballads (“To Love Somebody,” “I Started a Joke”) to exciting dance numbers (“You Should Be Dancing,” “Stayin’ Alive”). They made the Top 20 chart two dozen times, with nine songs hitting number one. They did it on stages, then they moved into recording studios. They knew early on that they could sing, that they had the special gift of sibling harmony (think of the Everly Brothers, the Beach Boys). They were the British trio of the Gibb brothers: Barry and (three years younger) twins Robin and Maurice. Do you have a favorite Bee Gees song? How about a favorite Bee Gee? For the younger members of this readership, do you know who the Bee Gees were? Such a problem may have multiple feasible regions and multiple locally optimal points within each region. Convex problems can be solved efficiently up to very large size.Ī non-convex optimization problem is any problem where the objective or any of the constraints are non-convex, as pictured below. Several methods - notably Interior Point methods - will either find the globally optimal solution, or prove that there is no feasible solution to the problem. With a convex objective and a convex feasible region, there can be only one optimal solution, which is globally optimal. In a convex optimization problem, the feasible region - the intersection of convex constraint functions - is a convex region, as pictured below. Conic optimization problems - the natural extension of linear programming problems - are also convex problems. Linear functions are convex, so linear programming problems are convex problems. Convex Optimization ProblemsĪ convex optimization problem is a problem where all of the constraints are convex functions, and the objective is a convex function if minimizing, or a concave function if maximizing. But Frontline System's Premium Solver Platform products includes an automated test for convexity of your problem functions. The issue has been that, unless your objective and constraints were linear, it was difficult to determine whether or not they were convex. Tyrrell Rockafellar, in SIAM Review, 1993Ĭonvex optimization problems are far more general than linear programming problems, but they share the desirable properties of LP problems: They can be solved quickly and reliably up to very large size - hundreds of thousands of variables and constraints. ".in fact, the great watershed in optimization isn't between linearity and nonlinearity, but convexity and nonconvexity." Back in 2012, the azonto was all the rave, thanks to Sarkodie and E.L’s late 2011 offering, “U Go Kill Me”. If we never get to the bottom of the friendly war between Nigeria and Ghana, we’ll pin it on the fact that Wizkid hijacked their dance move and made it his own. Though Daddy Showkey, Baba Fryo and others from that region were known for popularising the dance and the sound that goes along with it, the credit for its origin goes to the vibrant dance scene in the Ajegunle ghetto. The dance has remained evergreen and saw a sort of resurgence through the late 2010s, with dancers still referencing it occasionally to show their range and performers like Santi breaking out the move to wow their fans. When Daddy Showkey emerged from the streets of Ajegunle to dominate the mainstream music scene in the ’90s, he brought along the Galala dance step which required dancers to bend their knees and shuffle their feet in one spot. Granted, this dance arrived way before the 2010s, but we just had to give the Galala an honourable mention, seeing as the move still goes off today.ĭancing has remained a reliable bridge between the street (ghetto) and popular Nigerian culture. From Davido’s Skelewu to the Shaku Shaku which made it over the shores, here are the most popular dance moves we had in the past decade: Galala (Nigeria, ’90s) So while we’re reminiscing about those times, we’ve decided to look back at all the popular dances we had in the last decade. Now that outside is closed, and we don’t even know when it will be safe to hit the clubs again, we’re missing all those sweaty times when the person standing next to you just had to spread themselves to bust a shoki – even when there’s literally no space for all of that. For that alone, the movement will go down in history as one of the most dominating runs in Nigerian culture. Starting as a dance from the streets of Lagos, popularised by Zlatan and Chinko Ekun, Zanku became a global phenomenon, which has most recently been tapped into by Beyoncé in her latest film, ‘Black Is King’. Even though there is a slight obsession at home to declare the end of the Zanku era, it’s wise to truly appreciate something for what it is. Take Zlatan for example, who coined the current rave, Zanku (an acronym for the phrase “Zlatan Abeg No Kill Us”), which has birthed its own sound of popular music at the moment. Over the past few years, some artists have seen massive success due to their attachment to a particular dance move, which catapulted their songs to new heights. While we did the Makossa, Swo and Yahooze through our formative years in the noughties, those dance moves didn’t quite hold the kind of reverence the ones we have today do. Any Afropop song worth its salt is inherently hinged upon its ability to make you dance, and artists tend to gear the music towards danceable rhythms that will get a party started or rile a crowd of concert-goers up. The shelf-life of gummy candy is mostly dependent on the reducing sugar content, an excess of which may lead to sweating and sticking to the gummy. The most common problems in manufacturing gelatin-based gummy are:įortunately, with a scientific approach, there is a solution to everything. The formulation of gummy candies can be very simple if you know how to make it. Apart from the difference in texture, pectin-based gummy does not melt in a hot environment and offers a better flavor release profile. On the other hand, when high-methoxy pectin (pectin is a polysaccharide obtained from the skin of fruits and vegetables) is used as a gelling agent in presence of high content acid and sugar, it imparts a softer chewy, tender bite and jelly-like texture to the gummy candies. Think of gummy bears, peach rings, wine gums and pastilles. Corn syrup prevents sugar crystallization whereas dextrose helps in moisture retention), gelling agents (gelatin, pectin or a combination thereof), citric acid, colors, flavors and polishing agents.Īnimal bone and cartilage-derived gelatin are the most widely used gelling agent in gummy candies (although vegan gelatin can be used, it does not require the blooming step), which forms a relatively strong thermo-reversible protein gel with a chewy and elastic texture. The basic gummy formulation is comprised of sweeteners (often times a combination of sucrose, corn syrup, dextrose, and sorbitol. You must be wondering what these little wonders are made of. Add ½ cup of cold water (or juice, tea, beer…) to a small saucepan, sprinkle 1 tsp of agar agar powder over the water, stir until completely dissolved.Who doesn’t like the squishy chewy texture of gummy candies in varied shapes, colors and flavors? Takes us down memory lane, and makes us think of a bright summer day or a childhood dream or a gift from our beloved ones. Do not use milk, otherwise your kohakutou will get bad soon.)ġ. Can be substituted with juice, tea, alcohol, coffee. EQUIPMENT you will need: Small Saucepan Kitchen scale Food containers with lids Parchment paper INGREDIENTS for making kohakutou: For making one box of Kohakutou (about 25 pieces of 1” candies) You will just need to flip them every other day to make sure that all the surfaces are dried evenly. The best equipment for drying crystal candies is a large piece of parchment paper. They totally stuck to the cooling rack, and broke when I tried to pull then off. The biggest mistake I’ve made this year was drying my kohakutou candies on a cooling rack. Drying the crystal candies on parchment paper Therefore, you may not able to make pink or light blue crystal candies with this recipe. Pink + Yellow pigment yields the color orange. Lemonade, beer, coffee, and tea are all good choices.īut DO NOT use milk, juice with pulp, or any other drink with protein, otherwise your crystal candies will go bad fast.Īnd keep it in mind that the syrup itself has a light yellow color because of the large amount of sugar, therefore no matter what color you add, it’s going to mix with yellow.īlue + Yellow pigment yields the color green. Or you can just use some colorful drinks to substitute the water in this recipe. The easiest method to make colorful kohakutou is adding a few drops of food coloring to the syrup after you transfer the syrup to the food container. However, it’s important to note that gelatin jellies may take significantly more time to develop a firm crust in the fridge due to the lower temperature. If you’re determined to experiment with gelatin for creating edible crystals, you can attempt the drying process by leaving the jelly uncovered in the refrigerator. Consequently, jelly or gummies made with agar agar tend to be more brittle, allowing them to be dried under room temperature for several days without concerns of melting or releasing water during the dehydration process. In contrast, agar agar has a higher melting point between 85º – 95º C. Gelatin has a melting point range of 31.7–34.2 ☌, which means that if the room temperature exceeds this range, the jelly made with gelatin may melt. The short answer is no, you can’t use gelatin to make edible crystals with a firm crust. Therefore, they can often be substituted with each other in recipes. The tastes and functions of these two ingredients are very similar. Traditional kohakutou is made from kanten (寒天) instead of agar agar powder(洋菜粉).īoth kanten and agar agar powder are made of red edible seaweed. Guide:įollowing are different methods using which we can take a screenshot on Manjaro Linux: Method 1: PrtScr Key In this guide, we have discussed keyboard keys, Manjaro’s in-built screenshot tool, and Flameshot (a screenshot tool that can be easily installed on any Linux system). Today, we will explore different ways we can take a screenshot on Manjaro Linux. For example, the screenshots that we have included in this tutorial will help you better understand the process of taking a screenshot. At times, screenshots can prove to be extremely beneficial. A screenshot allows you to capture the content of your laptop, computer, or mobile screen and share it with others or reference later. It is also called Screengrub and Screencap. Refer to Window Manager.A screenshot is a picture or image that shows the contents of a computer display.
